The Adventures of Kimchi and Pebbles: Keeping Our Walks Fun and Flexible
Walking Kimchi and Pebbles is always an adventure. With two energetic Frenchie twins, we’ve had to get creative with our walking techniques to make sure each walk is enjoyable, manageable, and gives them the exercise they need. Over time, we’ve developed different approaches to suit our moods, schedules, and the twins’ needs. Whether it’s a solo stroll or a team effort, every walk brings a new experience!
Individual Walks: Quality One-on-One Time
Sometimes, we like to take Kimchi and Pebbles on individual walks. This gives us the chance to bond with each dog separately, especially when they were little, allowing them to explore at their own pace without the distraction of their sibling. These solo walks are great for giving each pup some focused attention and helping them feel secure in their independence. Plus, it helps when we need to work on training commands or behavior with just one dog.
Kimchi usually loves to take her time sniffing every little thing, while Pebbles can be more adventurous, trotting ahead to see what’s around the next corner. Walking them individually gives them space to express their unique personalities.
Walking Together with One Person: Double the Fun, Double the Challenge!
Walking both Kimchi and Pebbles by yourself is definitely a fun challenge! When we do this, it’s all about balance—quite literally. The key is keeping them synchronized and making sure no one is pulling too far ahead (we’re looking at you, Pebbles!).
I walk both dogs at once at least twice a day and its great for teaching them to work as a team. It’s fun to watch them figure out how to walk side-by-side, sometimes matching strides perfectly, other times trying to outpace one another. There’s something endearing about watching them trot along together, sharing their curiosity about the world. And let’s be real, the frenchie butt wiggle is the cutest thing on the planet!
Tag Team Walks: Walking Together, But Swapping Roles
Another technique we love is when both of us walk the twins together, but we switch who handles which dog along the way. This keeps things interesting for us and for Kimchi and Pebbles. It’s a great way to shake things up, especially if one of them is being a little more spirited that day!
By switching mid-walk, we can compare how each dog behaves with different walkers. Sometimes Kimchi is more focused when she’s with one of us, while Pebbles becomes more playful with the other. It’s a small change that makes the walk dynamic and fun for everyone involved.
The Family Walk: Two People, Two Dogs, Lots of Fun
This is the classic, balanced approach—one person walks Kimchi, and the other walks Pebbles. We do this almost every night after dinner and switch up who walks each one. These family walks are some of our favorites because they’re more relaxing and allow us to spend time together while giving each dog the attention they need.
With both of us handling a dog, we can stroll and chat without worrying too much about juggling two leashes. Plus, Kimchi and Pebbles get the chance to bond with us individually while still experiencing the walk together as a family.
Why These Techniques Matter
By mixing up our walking routines, we’re able to give Kimchi and Pebbles the variety they crave. Whether they’re walking solo, side-by-side, or in a fun switcheroo, each technique offers something new. It also helps us manage their energy levels, train them in different environments, and keep them mentally stimulated.
For us, it’s also a great way to balance the responsibility of dog ownership while enjoying quality time together. And let’s be honest, it’s a lot more fun switching things up than sticking to the same routine!
So, whether it’s a breezy one-on-one stroll or a full family affair, walking Kimchi and Pebbles is always an adventure—one that keeps us laughing, bonding, and exploring the world, one paw at a time.
